Behind Fox & Fern

If you had told me a few years ago that I would be running a business creating handcrafted oak gifts, I probably would not have believed you.

Creativity has always been a big part of who I am. Before Fox & Fern, I worked as a nail technician and also ran my own cake decorating business, so making beautiful things with my hands has always come naturally to me.

My husband was a carpenter, and over the years I spent a great deal of time helping him with his work. Without really realising it at the time, I was learning about wood, tools, careful finishing and the patience needed to create something properly.

When Life Changed Overnight

Everything changed in January 2023 when my husband suffered a life-changing stroke.

Overnight, our lives looked completely different. I left my job to become his full-time carer, and together we had to find a new way forward.

During such an uncertain time, creating gave me something positive to focus on. It allowed me to use the practical skills I had learned from my husband alongside the creativity that had always been part of my life.

What started as a way to keep creating and make use of those shared skills slowly grew into something much bigger.

How Fox & Fern Began

Fox & Fern was born from resilience, family and a genuine love of making beautiful things.

From the beginning, I wanted to create pieces that were not only lovely to look at, but also practical enough to become part of everyday life.

A chopping board used while preparing family meals. Kitchen jars reached for every morning. A wedding gift that becomes part of a couple’s new home. A hot chocolate station brought out for cosy evenings together.

These are the moments that inspire the things I make.

Crafted in Our Family Workshop

Today, Fox & Fern is run from our family workshop on the Essex and Suffolk border.

Each order is made to order, carefully engraved and finished by hand before it is checked, wrapped and sent to its new home.

I have never wanted Fox & Fern to become a business focused on making as many products as possible. Quality, care and attention to detail will always matter more to me than mass production.

Natural oak has its own grain, colour and character, which means no two pieces are exactly alike. That individuality is part of what makes handcrafted products so special.

Family at the Heart of Everything

Fox & Fern has always been more than a business to us.

It has allowed me to continue caring for my husband while building something creative and meaningful around our family life.

Every order placed, every review left and every recommendation shared helps support our family business. I never take that support for granted.
